Kitchen Refresh

August 31, 2021

Let’s talk about your kitchen. If you have purchased an older home or have been in your home awhile, you may be dreaming of a new kitchen. A kitchen remodel could cost $50,000 or more. So how about a kitchen refresh?

With so many colors to choose from, picking a wall color can become overwhelming. Choose white! It is fresh and crisp and allows the other choices you will be making to stand out.  Two top rated neutral whites are Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace and Sherwin Williams Pure White.

Next add a new light. Here’s your chance to pick a piece of art. A little bit of wonder every time you turn it on. Good art moves you, so go with what wows you or makes you happy. Keep in mind the functionality of the light as well, look at how bright and how far it radiates and how that fits your needs. There are many options at your local hardware store or online.

Most kitchen walls are taken up by cabinets. Paint is an easy update with a major impact on the refresh. If you  agree with the white walls from above, let’s add some color. Or two! Painting lower cabinets or an island in a different color is another design choice being used in new construction and remodels right now. If you chose color for your walls, consider white or black cabinets.  Add new pulls and your cabinets are complete.

Finishing your refresh are your accessories. How much you add is a personal preference, just be cautious not to add too many or the room looks cluttered and your changes are no longer the focus. A nonslip rug or runner with a pattern gives texture and adds depth to your room.  If you have bar stools, update those as well or add new seat cushions and  placemats. You also need a plant (real or faux) and a basket, cutting board or tray for interest.

Now it’s time to enjoy your refresh.  Those new lights and paint have done wonders. You have a new kitchen that feels like a remodel, at a fraction of the cost!
